Land clearing is the first work on a wooded or overgrown site. As an excavation contractor in Dallas, Oregon, Turner Excavation clears and grubs building sites and development parcels with excavators. Trees, brush, blackberry and stumps come out with their roots. The debris leaves in our dump trucks or goes to a pile where you choose.
Our site preparation work is built around larger projects. That means a new home site on acreage, a farm or nursery building, a commercial site or a subdivision. After the clearing, we strip the topsoil and rough grade the ground. The site is then ready for underground utility installation and building pads.
Tell us about the project and where the site is. We look at the job and put a free estimate in writing.
Site preparation starts before a machine moves. We mark the clearing limits and the trees that stay. Erosion controls go in where the plan calls for them, and the utility locates come first.
Then the clearing and grubbing start. Clearing takes down the trees and brush. Grubbing pulls the stumps and roots out of the ground, and the debris goes to the trucks or the pile.
Next we strip the topsoil and stockpile it on site for later use. On engineered jobs, the strip depth comes from the plan. A rough grade sets up the cut and fill work that comes next. The construction entrance gets clean rock over fabric to keep mud off the road.
Builders and developers bring us in to clear raw land for a subdivision. Lot clearing opens the ground for the streets and the utility trenches. Commercial owners and general contractors use us for the site side of a new building.
Farms and nurseries clear ground for new buildings and equipment yards. Landowners clear a home site on acreage, with room for a house and a shop. Our excavators do the clearing and grubbing, and the dozer handles the rough grade.
Poorly drained silt and clay soils are common on the valley terraces. On the Dayton soils, the water table sits at its highest from November to April. Wet clay ruts under heavy machines, and the dry season is the main build season. Our water truck keeps the dust down on summer jobs.
Oregon's open burning rules treat land-clearing debris as demolition waste. Burning it is banned within three miles of the Dallas and Monmouth city limits, and six miles of Salem's. A DEQ letter permit is possible only when no other disposal method works. Farther out, burning still answers to local rules and the State Fire Marshal.
Creeks and wetlands add another layer. Fill or digging in a wetland or a creek can need a removal-fill permit from the Oregon Department of State Lands. The US Army Corps of Engineers may require its own permit too.

We come out to look at the ground and where the water goes. If there are plans, we go through the quantities with you.
The free estimate comes to you in writing, with the scope of work spelled out. Once you say yes, we set the start date together.
We call Oregon 811 for utility locates before any digging. Then the work goes in the order the job needs, from clearing through base rock.
We work with the city or county inspectors as the utilities go in. We leave the site graded and ready for the builders or the next trade.

French drains, curtain drains, catch basins and culverts for building sites, subdivisions, farms and nurseries. We build each system on a steady fall to an outlet, to the engineer's plan where there is one.

Our excavators, dozer, water truck and dump trucks do the heavy work. Our crew and foreman run the site from the first cut to final grade.
