What we do

Excavation Services in the Mid-Willamette Valley

Underground utilities lead our work, along with the streets and lots of new subdivisions. Commercial site work, grading, storm drainage, directional drilling and demolition fill out the services below.

Underground Utilities

We install water mains, sanitary sewer, storm sewer and power and communications conduit for subdivisions and commercial sites. Each run goes from open trench to compacted backfill, ready for the inspector.

Commercial Site Work

We clear and grade commercial sites, build the pad and run the utilities to the building. We bring the parking lot to base rock, and our paving and concrete subcontractors finish it.

Land Clearing and Site Prep

Excavator land clearing for building sites and development parcels, with the stumps and roots pulled out. We strip and stockpile the topsoil, then rough grade the ground for the next stage.

Storm Drainage

French drains, curtain drains, catch basins and culverts for building sites, subdivisions, farms and nurseries. We build each system on a steady fall to an outlet, to the engineer's plan where there is one.

Who we are

A Civil Construction Company for Builders and Developers

Turner Excavation is a civil construction company, and subdivision and lot development is a big part of our work. On a typical job, we take a 50-acre field and put in the utilities and streets. Then we cut and fill the lots so the builders can start their dig outs.

We also do commercial site work, from clearing and the building pad to the parking lot base. Farms and nurseries call us for grading and drainage. Our underground utility work includes a water system in Springfield and fire hydrants for a park in Newport.

Valley ground stays wet from fall into spring, so we plan the heavy earthwork for the dry months. Erosion and sediment controls are part of the work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions About Excavation, Utilities or Site Work?

Here are common questions about excavation and site work around Dallas and Salem. If yours is not here, call or text and we will answer it.

Call (503) 507-2919

What does an excavation contractor do?
An excavation contractor moves and shapes the ground so something can be built on it. That covers cut and fill, trenches, building pads and the base under roads. Around Dallas, OR, we also put in the underground utilities for new lots and commercial sites.
What size projects do you take on?
We are set up for larger work, like subdivisions, commercial sites, long utility runs and farm and nursery ground. Many of our projects run for weeks or months. A new home site on acreage fits too, when we prepare the whole site, from clearing to the building pad.
Do you work for builders and general contractors?
Yes. Builders hire us for subdivision work, and general contractors bring us in for commercial site work. We work from the engineer's plans and sequence our work so the next trade can start. For your records, our number is CCB# 250695.
Do you work on farm and nursery ground?
Yes. We grade nursery growing areas and farm fields, and we build equipment yards and farm access roads. On wet valley ground, that work often calls for drainage too. We also trench for water lines and power conduit out to farm and nursery buildings.
Do you handle paving and concrete?
Yes, through subcontractors we manage. On new streets and private roads, we build from the subgrade up through the base rock, with the storm lines and utilities below. Our paving subcontractor lays the asphalt, and the concrete crew we bring in pours the curbs and sidewalks.
What area do you serve?
We work from our yard in Dallas, up to about 70 miles out. Polk and Marion Counties are the core of our service area. It runs north to Wilsonville and Sherwood and south to Eugene and Springfield. To the west, it crosses the Coast Range to Newport and Lincoln City.
How does pricing work?
Every project gets a free estimate in writing after we look at the plans and the ground. The size of the site and how much material moves drive the price. On utility work, the depth and length of the runs count, and wet ground or long hauls add cost. Call or text (503) 507-2919 to get yours started.
When is the best time for earthwork in the Willamette Valley?
By NOAA's numbers, a normal year near Dallas brings about 48 inches of rain. More than nine-tenths of it falls from October through May, so summer is the main build season. Wet ground can still be worked with rock and erosion controls, but it goes slower. We plan the schedule with you around the season.
Who calls 811 before the digging starts?
Oregon law (ORS 757.557) says anyone who plans to dig must notify the Oregon Utility Notification Center. The notice goes in 2 to 10 business days before the dig. Tilling farm ground outside a utility easement or right of way is exempt, but trenching and grading are not. On our jobs, we request the locates through Oregon 811 before any machine digs.
