Foundation Excavation
We handle foundation excavation and build compacted building pads for homes on acreage, shops, barns and commercial buildings. Footings are cut to the engineer's plan, and every pad is graded to drain.

Gravel driveway installation on acreage often means a long drive from the county road to the house site. Farms and nurseries need access roads that carry loaded trucks. Equipment yards need a firm rock surface, and building sites need a construction entrance. Turner Excavation builds each of them from the subgrade up to the gravel surface.
Driveways and access roads are one part of our work as an excavation contractor in Dallas, OR. Our excavators, dozer, water truck and dump trucks run from our yard in Dallas across Polk and Marion Counties. Public streets with curbs and utilities underneath fall under our road and street construction work. Call or text (503) 507-2919 for a free estimate in writing.

A long drive starts with the route. We look at where the water runs and where the ground stays soft. Trees and brush along the route come out with our land clearing work. Then we strip the topsoil, which holds water and gives under weight.
Next comes the driveway grading. The dozer shapes the subgrade with a crown, so rain runs off to both sides. Ditches carry the water along the edges, and a culvert takes it under the drive where it must cross. Culverts and ditches are part of our storm drainage work too.
Base rock goes on in layers, and each layer is compacted before the next. How deep the rock goes depends on the ground and the trucks that will use it. A finer gravel top course goes on last. Valley clay stays soft through the wet season, so the dry months are the main build season.
Gravel road construction for a farm or a nursery starts with the loads the road will carry. Loaded trucks and tractors need a wide road and room to turn. We lay out turnarounds and loading areas where the trucks need them. Equipment yards get the same rock base, graded so water runs off the yard.
In unincorporated Polk County, the zoning ordinance sets the surface for parking and loading areas other than a single home's. Inside an urban growth boundary, those areas must be paved with asphalt or concrete. Outside one, gravel can serve, laid six inches deep. Where the lot meets a paved road, the county requires a paved apron, and our paving subcontractor places it.
On acreage, a house or shop over 150 feet from the road often needs fire truck access along the drive. The Polk County fire district that serves Monmouth and Independence publishes a guide to the Oregon Fire Code. It calls for 20 feet of clear width and 13 feet 6 inches of clear height. A dead end longer than 150 feet needs a turnaround.
For two homes or fewer, the guide allows a 12-foot driving surface inside that 20-foot clear width. It also wants the access road in place before framing or other combustible work starts. So the drive often goes in first. The fire code official for the area has the final say on each drive.
On sites under Oregon DEQ's 1200-C stormwater permit, each access point needs mud controls before land disturbance starts. Clean rock over geotextile fabric is one control the permit names. Mud tracked onto a road has to come off before it rains, and by the end of that business day. We build these construction entrances for subdivision development and commercial sites.

We call Oregon 811 for utility locates before any digging. Then the work goes in the order the job needs, from clearing through base rock.
We work with the city or county inspectors as the utilities go in. We leave the site graded and ready for the builders or the next trade.

Directional drilling carries water services and power and communications conduit under roads, paved drives, parking lots and creeks. The pipe pulls back through the bore, and the surface above it stays in place.
